Klean-Prep™
Helix sells Klean-Prep in Canada via its drug distribution division Rivex Pharma. The product is used for bowel lavage / evacuation, primarily as a pre-treatment for colon examination in colorectal cancer screening.
The product is marketed in a convenient 1-litre container with 4 sachets of powder to be used for the preparation of solution for oral ingestion. Each sachet is reconstituted in 1-litre of water for a total dose of 4-litres. The product is a balanced mixture of polyethylene glycol and electrolytes which, when added to water, produces a clear, colourless, iso-osmotic drinking solution that facilitates the flushing of the digestive tract of all solid material.

Colorectal screening is accomplished by physical and X-ray examination and by a process called colonoscopy. The colonoscopy procedure is performed by inserting a flexible tube into the colon with a light source to allow the physician to visualize the colon walls. If polyps are detected, they can be removed with little or no discomfort to the patient. The simplicity of the examination and the significant cure rate from early detection, has resulted in a growing number of colonoscopies being performed each year.
