Normacol™
Through Helix’s drug distribution division Rivex Pharma, the product Normacol™ is distributed in Canada.
Normacol™ is a bulk forming laxative, consisting of 62% sterculia gum in a palatable granular form. Sterculia gum absorbs up to 60 times its own volume in water, approximately 6 times as much as either psyllium or methylcellulose. Two teaspoons of Normacol™ granules provide the dietary bulk fibre equivalent of 2 kg of fresh vegetables. This fibre quickly restores normal bowel action and provides natural relief of occasional constipation.1,2
The Normacol™ granules are placed dry on the tongue and washed down with water or any cool drink of the patient's choice. No messy mixing or dissolving in liquid, results in a very easy to use, safe laxative that encourages patient compliance. For those who prefer, Normacol™ granules can be mixed with a small amount of honey or jam followed by a drink of the patient's choice. Normacol™ is available in boxes of 30 - 7 gram sachets and is available without a prescription in most drugstores in Canada.
